No titan mode. Therefore, inferior to 2142. :P

Also, bleh another modern game :( They need to do another 2142-setting game, then I'd play the shit out of it!

first fix your language issues phoenix...

Second bf2142 was by far the worst battlefield game there was. 1942 was the best in terms of balanced gameplay. Meaning they didn't balance by giving everyone access to the same stuff, all the stuff was different and was better and worse in certain ways.
Plus 1942 had more ships than any other as well. Have battleship battles with enemy planes dropping torpedoes to try to sink you.

Whoops, my apologies, I thought that word wasn't banned, per se, and that if it was the forum would censor it like it does other words. I'll keep that in mind in future posts.

So you explained why 1942 was awesome, but I'm curious (from a friendly "I want to know what others think" standpoint) as to how you feel that 2142 was the worst of the games? Personally, I felt that BF2 was the worst, due to the unbalanced jets, and the fact that with jets on the map, using armor was pretty much a death wish. But that's just my opinion. I LOVED bf2's choppers, and I feel that it was one of the best chopper sims out there, despite not being specifically that. :P Also, I simply enjoy futuristic weapons and vehicles. The walkers and gunships were SOOO much fun.

Post Re: Battlefield 3 beta access!!!!!!!!!!!
the feel of 2142 screamed arcade to me. At this point 1942 was still fairly fresh and on top of my mind for what a bf game should be. Bf2 had it's merits helicopters definitely were one of them, jets were just stupid.

Anyways more on 2142, maybe i didn't give it a full chance but I didn't care for the futuristic aspect of it, it seemed it wasn't sure what kind of game it wanted to be.
Look at it this way, in my view the bf games went from a pretty realistic (for the time) full scale war sim. Infantry/tanks/airplanes/ships, they all had their roles along with the class system was better I think.
It didn't have everyone running around with huge full auto mgs spraying and killing people across the map. You had guns like the bar which was great until it ran out of bullets in the clip which was really really fast. It had more power range and accuracy than say the german stg but the stg had a higher fire rate and a much large clip.

To me bf2142 is to bf 1942 like mw2 is to cod4.

I think another big thing about it was just how it handled the conquest on many maps and how well planned out the maps were. For example wake island, made it's way into many battlefields, that's how good of a map design that was. Japanese start with no bases but have a destroyer and an aircraft carrier and try to take the whole map. Only way japanese ever really won it is by doing just that, no amount of camping and !337 sniping was going to win the map. Didn't have radar guided heat seaking super missles fired from everywhere, you had guys with bazookas and panzhershrecks shooting using something called skill.

Post Re: Battlefield 3 beta access!!!!!!!!!!!
Did you ever try the Titan maps on 2142? I always felt they added a really unique aspect to the game. It would have been like if (since I didn't play 1942) in BF2 on wake island, if the chinese could have taken the aircraft carrier, but would have had to fight and bleed hallway by hallway to get the the control room and I dunno... blow it up or something. It's a rather loose analogy...

But it wasn't just once you were in the titan that was awesome, it was the combination of the ground war to get the shields down, then once they were down, did you:
A) continue ground war to take it out with silo's
B) hop up to your titan (assuming your shields are down too) to keep the enemy from destroying it (a well coordinated team could destroy a titan in under a minute if there wasn't an organized defense)
C) Go to their titan and try to destroy it.

Once you decided to go for their titan, you'd have to get UP to the titan. You could do this either by using a dropship (think black hawks), or an APC, which had launch pods designed for getting from ground level up a few hundred feet in the air, and landing on top of the titan. There were 4 entrances, any of which could have been defended with either C4, claymores, or just a guy with a gun in a narrow hallway with no room to dodge. However, you could throw smoke to obscure his view, detonate his C4 with your own (one of the sniper rifles could also detonate C4), or drop down and try to kill the guy before he either A) turns you into a new coat of paint on the wall, or B) guns you down. Most of the time, the attacking team was able to maintain a stronghold of sorts in one of the entrances, allowing the team to enter without much trouble.

Back in the day when the titans could move (still the glory days IMO) you'd see both titans sidle up next to each other and you could drop pod from your titan directly onto theirs, resulting in some absolutely insane bloodbath defenses and assaults, the likes of which still give me goosebumps remembering. :P I've never seen anything quite like it in any online game...

Titan mode also had no tickets - the goal was the destruction of the enemy titan, regardless of the costs. I felt this was a strength, because it allowed players to be more goal-focused, rather than just trying to keep their score up.

Now, something that occured just in the last year or two was the discovery that if the enemy was defending the lower consoles too strongly (you had to take out the lower console before you could destroy the corresponding upper console), you could bypass them by firing enough Pilum AT rifle rounds into the shield blocking the upper, which would destroy the lower console. Teams had to learn to watch for the telltale blue sparks from the pilum round leaking in from the roof above, and be able to react and kill the engineer before he finished. Meanwhile, the enemy team could use this time to assault the hallway, possibly getting in.

Then there was the escape. Once you've destroyed the enemy titan, you had BARELY enough time to get from the core room to the edge of the titan and JUMP OFF at a dead sprint, and parachute down to the ground (albeit UNDER an exploding titan.... >.>) Hell of an adrenaline rush as an entire team literally sprints for their lives to get off the soon-to-be-fireball, sometimes running alongside enemy troops who were also running for their lives. Then you realize what you're doing and gun them down for a few more points at the end of the round xD

So yea... that's my summary of a titan match. At least, the interesting parts.

*EDIT* Argh... now I want to go play it. I think I'll go DL it again and see if any servers still have people, lol.

i'm sure it suits your style of play better than mine then, I don't like chaotic gameplay where it's rapid fire death spawn death spawn death.
My favorite shooters have always been round based, started out on counterstrike alpha and have always preferred that style since it's short bursts of ultra high intense gameplay with breaks so each round everyone is able to fully concentrate.

Anyways though an interesting point supporting my appreciation of bf1942 is that there are still many servers going strong for it now, in fact (not to put it down) more than bf2142 even though 2142 came out many years later.

Yea, that doesn't suprise me in the least, in regards to the active server count. 2142 always was viewed as the lame duck of the series, but that doesn't it from being my favorite by a wide margin :P

Ah, then yea it's a matter of differing playstyle preferences, as I personally dislike round based games such as counterstrike and MW2, because all it does is prove who's the better shooter, not who's better at working with a team to accomplish a given objective on a larger scale than "kill all the badguys and/or rescue the hostages". Objectives that last longer than 5 minutes, I guess.

And that's all perfectly fine, to each their own, I say.

I loved Titan mode so much in BF2142. My favorite map for it was Suez Canal. That was the only map I played for Titan mode but whenever I played the conquest mode I usually played Cerbere Landing or Camp Gibraltar.
